Until Mr. Harper’s ‘world class’ bitumen spill containment and recovery system.. is shown to work satisfactorily in real ocean conditions we should avoid allowing these behemoth bitumen carriers in our busy,environmentally sensitive waters and potentially affecting our multi-billion dollar tourist ‘industry’ —certainly not DOUGLAS CHANNEL,BURRARD INLET or SALISH SEA.
Why not combine Enbridge and Kinder Morgan pipelines ,from Alberta,to a port location near Port Simpson..a location that minimize the probability of spills . Such a decision should be supported by the best by ‘world class’ risk specialists …Recall Mr. Harper’s counsel.. that ‘science…NOT POLITICS should guide us’ !
Typically risk analysis studies have been used in major investment decisions such as management of major maritime transportation !

Our leaders must demand that the ‘best science’ be applied when making these vital decisions..or are we left with decisions made by the pipeliners bean counters ?
