The U.S.  NTSB Enbridge pipeline incident REPORT of July 2010  should have shaken  the industry…..

We never heard a ‘mia culpa’ from Enbridge Board after this KALAMAZOO screw-up??…also we saw no ENBRIDGE Board ‘EPIPHANY’ about their  ‘new Enbridge Corporate ‘PUBLIC  SAFETY  CULTURE’ ..

Ultimately , we saw a clumsy  NEB Enbridge report —with 209 ‘conditions’ for Canadian Government backroom experts to resolve …with no public input !

We know that   pipelines and tankers are here to stay..

In BC we have an opportunity to build a better pipeline and tanker routing plan…to handle Alberta’s bitumen transport needs ..namely;build ONE PIPELINES SYSTEM from Alberta  to Port Simpson,or vicinity –and ship bitumen  to world markets –and with much less threat to our waters ,harbours and environmentally sensitive shores, than offered in existing plans….

Our leaders need to get together and appoint some new names (Jim Prentice and Shawn Atleo for instance) to build plan to bring the bitumen to market..yes K.I.S.S. !

…OR must we a wait for the decision of the ‘ULTIMATE’ NEB—the  NATIONAL ELECTION BALLOT     ??

This Kitimat/Douglas Channel ,environmentally precious location ,borders on the sacred—Recall, when the press  quoted  Mr. Prentice and Mr. Al Monaco,President/CEO Enbridge , when  each mused about ‘leaving’  Douglas Channel— was that a KNOWING ‘gut feeling’ –-that Enbridge chose to ignore ?
Now comes time for action ;
“….would (Mr. Prentice) take a direct role in negotiating with chiefs …. I’m not going to get into that today(if not Mr. Prentice, then who?) – our prosperity ….depends on our ABILITY TO ACCESS WORLD MARKETS.”
Premier Jim  Prentice and Premier Christy Clark …should advise  Mr. Harper that it’s time for  action….  Ask Mr. Harper to instruct NEB to order pipe line and shipping route changes….in the Canadian Public Interest !
Southern BC folk are  reacting   strongly to Kinder Morgan’ pipeline twinning project—because they  fear consequences of  increasing bitumen shipping volumes in southern, busy shipping waters.
What’s required is a shipping route, with a supporting world class independent ,expert risk-analysis study  that shows the reduced  probability  bitumen spills…with a ONE PIPELINES SYSTEM  concept,,that gives Alberta the ABILITY TO ACCESS WORLD MARKETS.

PIPELINE Decisive Action required–NOW !

B.C. now handles much of Canada’s resources export trade…and Alberta’s bitumen export needs must be dealt with—smartly!
Canada’s well-being is a directly related to  our resources . It’s time for decisive action !
Is Jim Prentice the ‘GO TO  ‘ person ? Mr. Prentice ‘expects to have  a good working relationship with Premier Christy Clark’.. who just appointed Mr. Shawn Atleo (former Chief of the Assembly of First Nations) to work with  First Nations on bitumen transport issues..
Has the ‘table’ been set  ?  In ‘the Canadian public Interest’,Mr. Harper must now invite these potential ‘partners’ to bring an end to this BC pipelines mess.Surely with this motivated, knowledgeable ,well positioned  team—a simpler, more risk-free export plan could be developed to deliver much of Alberta’ bitumen to world markets—through the preferred West Coast port.
A trans-BC  pipeline location presents   many challenges..but  any experienced  pipeline design organization would welcome the opportunity to put together an independent  project plan for public review……but, where others have failed, must remember  to satisfactorily address public concerns about bitumen spills  in  environmentally sensitive locations !
Mr. Harper should be ‘most joyed’ for the timely ‘availability  ’ of these leaders ?
